Pictured: Banksy’s new goat artwork keeps people guessing

Ibex spray-painted onto building wall in Kew, south-west London, appears to be teetering on a support column

Banksy has unveiled his first piece of artwork since he launched a pro-migration piece at Glastonbury.
The pseudonymous street artist has spray-painted an ibex onto the side of a building wall in Kew, south-west London, which gives the impression that the wild goat is teetering on a support column that juts out.
Banksy posted an image of the goat on his Instagram account – his normal method of announcing artworks as his own – but his followers are confused about the meaning of the piece.
Some have suggested it may have an environmental meaning, while others have suggested the acronym Goat (greatest of all time) could be a laudatory reference to himself.
The wall on which the goat is painted is overlooked by a CCTV camera, suggesting Banksy felt confident that he could create the artwork and maintain his anonymity despite surveillance.

In July, he created a dinghy filled with dummies in reference to the small boats migrants have used to cross the Channel, with the craft carried by the crowd during a performance by the Bristol-based band Idles.
The band has sung in support of immigration in the past, with their song Danny Nedelko containing the lyrics “My blood brother is an immigrant/A beautiful immigrant/My blood brother’s Freddie Mercury/A Nigerian mother of three”.
James Cleverly, the then home secretary, criticised the stunt at the time, saying: “There are a bunch of people that are joking and celebrating about criminal actions which cost lives. People die in the Mediterranean, they die on the Channel. This is not funny. It is vile. This is a celebration of the loss of life in the Channel.”
